—The Train of Beauty Traversing through time
Time is a fundamental issue. We cannot avoid time. Our consciousness is constantly moving from one moment to another, and that is time, and time is continuous. Bergson said that time is the primary problem of metaphysics.
True time, in every moment, is interpenetrating and intermingling with each other, divided and undivided, together constituting a unified whole, and every moment of it, without exception, is in pure qualitative flux, in true creation, and thus it is vivid and lively, yet immeasurably so.
Time occupies the deepest foundational position in modernity. At the heart of modernity is a future-seeking mentality. In this state of mind, ultimate meaning is in the "future," an object of faith that cannot be perceived or visualised in the present. Modernity is always within time.
Aesthetic sensibility is not the sensibility and intuition of everyday experience, but is similar to what Kant called "essential intuition". The specificity of aesthetic experience lies in the fact that the sense of ultimate purpose gained in the realm of aesthetics (especially the peak experience) implies the arrival in the future, thus putting an end to the temporal movement that accompanies the pursuit of the subject's will.
In the experimental video project "Train of Beauty", I express my personal aesthetic experience of repeatedly travelling in and out of time, even though it is still far from eternity. It reveals the complex emotions I feel, such as serenity, ecstasy, disorientation and sadness, together with the landscape of my mind.
Beauty is revealed in the unclouded, and in aesthetics one actually experiences the eternity that lies beyond time. In aesthetics, man will transcend the modernity of thought and reach the end of time.
美的列车
——穿梭于时间内外
时间是个根本问题。我们无法回避时间。我们的意识不停地从一个时刻转向另一时刻,这就是时间,时间是延续不断的。柏格森说过:时间是形而上学的首要问题。
真正的时间,在每一瞬间都是彼此互渗互融、分而不分的,共同构成统一整体,其每一瞬间都无一例外地处在纯粹质的流变中,处在真正的创造中,因而它是生动活泼但又无法量度的。
时间在现代性中占据着最深层的基础地位。现代性的核心是一种追求未来的心态。在这种心态下,终极意义处于“未来”,它是信仰的对象,而无法在当下呈现为可以感知或直观的对象。现代性永远处于时间之内。
审美的感性不是日常经验的感性与直观,而类似于康德所说的“本质直观”。审美经验的特异性在于,在审美(特别是高峰体验)境界中所获得的终极目的感意味着抵达未来,从而结束了伴随主体意志追求的时间运动。
在实验性影像项目“美的列车”中,我将个人的,反复穿梭与时间内外的审美体验表达出来,尽管离永恒仍有距离。它将我所感受到的宁静,狂喜,迷失,忧愁等繁复的情绪与心灵深处的风景一同展现出来。
美在无蔽的事物中显现,人在审美中切实体会到了那时间之外的永恒。人将在审美中超越现代性思想,到达时间的尽头。
